LEICESTER TIGERS AWARD £40 MILLION CONTRACT TO LINDLEY GROUP
Guinness Premiership team Leicester Tigers have signed a £40 million contract to retain the Lindley Group as the sole provider of catering services at the rugby club's Welford Road ground.
The UK' leading sports stadia caterer has been awarded an 11-year contract for both public and corporate hospitality catering. Lindley has managed all of the club's catering services for the past eight years.
The appointment comes as the club embarks on the first phase of a major £60 million redevelopment of the ground which will ultimately increase the capacity of the stadium from 17,500 to 30,000.
Work on the first phase of the expansion of the ground, which involves the creation of a new Caterpillar Stand on the Granby Halls side of the stadium, began in July, with completion scheduled for the start of the 2009/10 season. This will create space for 10,500 supporters taking capacity from the present 17,500 to 24,500.
Under the terms of the agreement Lindley Group is investing £1.25 million in installing new state-of-the art kitchen facilities which will be located within the new stand development. Currently 8 full-time Lindley staff are based at Welford Road and they are supported by up to 200 part-time and casual staff. It is anticipated that this number will more than double by 2010.
David Clayton, Managing Director of Leicester Tigers, says: "We've worked in partnership with the Lindley Group since 2000 and they have made an enormous contribution towards developing the club's catering business during this time.
"We have very ambitious plans to expand the club's facilities over the next decade., Welford Road is already the biggest dedicated club rugby stadium in the UK – and catering will play an increasing role in enabling us to maximise potential use of the ground outside match days.
"Lindley understand what we want to achieve at Welford Road and during their tenure with Leicester Tigers they have provided us with a first class catering service. They have further demonstrated their commitment to the club through investing in new catering facilities to meet the increased capacity at the ground, and we look forward to working with them during what will be a very exciting time for the club."
Alex McCrindle, Chief Executive of the Lindley Group, adds: "Leicester Tigers have a very clear vision for how they can use new Welford Road facilities to increase revenue which can be re-invested in the club. They know exactly what they want to achieve through the redevelopment of the ground and we are delighted they have chosen to continue with Lindley as their catering partner as they embark on a new era in the club's history.
"This is a long-term commitment for both Lindley and Leicester Tigers and it demonstrates the mutual respect and trust both parties have established over the past eight years."
